Anna in the hearts of our students
-M.K.Stalin
I am satisfied that the Youth Wing has accomplished one of its historic duties. I am glad to be sharing that feeling through my web site with you. This is the opening ceremony of Perarignar Anna’s centenary celebrations. Amidst people who use Anna’s name and image, as a saleable ticket, DMK is a true Dravidian movement that is being guided by our leader, who implements his policies, the way Anna’s soul would desire. The Tamil society understands this, well enough. The DMK Youth Wing is ardent in taking the lead over the other wings, in implementing our leader’s wish of celebrating Anna’s centenary year, with pomp and splendor, all through the year.
In the Youth Wing convention held at Nellai, a resolution was passed to conduct competitions that will enhance the skills of the students of Tamil Nadu. The party’s policy is to implement such resolutions passed during these conventions, all across the state. In that, the Youth Wing will normally stay at the forefront. To kick start Anna’s centenary celebrations in an efficient and effective manner, elocution competition, essay writing competition and poetry recitation competitions were held for school students at all district headquarters on the 23rd ,24th,30th and 31st of August, 2008. State level competition is going to be held on 13th and 14th of September 2008.
Students spoke and wrote enthusiastically on various topics, including Anna’s great contributions, the benefits of the Dravidian movement to Tamil Nadu, the selfless service of our Dravidian leaders, and the need for reservation. Both the poems provided as material for the poetry recitation competition, were Kalaignar’s literary works. The fashion in which those girls and boys recited and pronounced those poems with emotion, reminded one of Valluvar’s couplet that exhorts the invaluable wealth of listening to others.
All the party’s district secretaries have taken personal interest and presided over these competitions, on behalf of the Youth Wing. Thousands of students from every district participated in these, akin to a family get-together. The motive behind these competitions is to perpetuate, Anna’s ideas to the new generation. Students were eager to share and display their knowledge to the judges. Looking at them, their extempore speeches and their writing, I was reminded of my student days.
Anna’s birthday celebration was my first public function. I am floored by those fond memories, when I, along with my friends, collected funds at a saloon at Gopalapuram, to celebrate Anna’s birthday. The word ‘Anna’ is a magical word, intertwined with the veins of our party men. Isn’t he the leader who molded our great leader? Once, our leader’s creative work, titled ‘Illamai pali’ was published in Anna’s magazine. Later, when Anna visited Tiruvarur, he enquired, “Who is Karunanidhi from this town, who is prolific in his writing?” and, our leader was introduced to him. “Write, after you complete your education. Only then will I publish your work,” chided Anna to our leader, then a school student.
In a state that now has mushrooming leaders who have reduced themselves to using even those who haven’t reached the age to exercise their franchise, and who parade them glamorously, and who use them for their own party work, Anna’s gesture and thoughtfulness is indeed worthy of praise. Anna wished that, his ardent followers must enter public life only after being well educated. Our leader learnt about Ayya (Periyar) and Anna. He learnt to be the society’s thought leader, something that even universities couldn’t impart. At 85, he is still working hard for the progress of Tamil Nadu and remains a beacon for Indian politics –- all because he puts Anna’s soul into his work.
Anna is the common man’s leader. The DMK is a party that was created for the good of barbers, washer men, porters, farmers, weavers, scavengers and all those who are under-privileged. He allowed these people to participate in the movement and helped them raise their social standing. Anna’s political movement, under the aegis of our leader, has been performing remarkably well for the past 50 years. We are now able to see a lot of progress in families that once did not even have proper education and economic growth. Today they are well-read and have occupied highly responsible positions. These students who were vociferous about Anna, about our leader and about our party, through their written word and speeches, belong to such communities of the Tamil society.
The party has always worked for the rise in social status of these communities. The children of those, who were the beneficiaries, have not forgotten the good deeds of the party and their leader, and these competitions have become a platform to reminiscence their loyalty. No other movement has such a wonderful opportunity. The Youth Wing has done a commendable job. Those who have won at the district level will now participate at the state level, to win many prizes.
It is not that only students, should voice Anna’s talents and his thought leadership. Those who are sharing their thoughts through the blog, must spread the word about Anna, how his ideals are being implemented by our beloved leader, and also spread the word about the party’s various accomplishments.
Let the glory of Anna, the cultured and refined politician, spread worldwide. For that, this web site is a great medium.
You can send your views as a PPS (Power Point show) file to anna@mkstalin.net. This can be registered in the web site and it will reach out to people across the globe to spread Anna’s renown, our leader’s service, and the honor of the Kazhagam – the people’s movement.
I am looking forward to your views.
