ADOPTION OF BEST PRACTICES BY NEIGHBOURING STATES. The Police Departments(traffic) of the Southern States atleast could share their 'innovative ideas' amongst themselves to improve the functioning of their respective police forces. Similarly, the City Municipal Corporations could also share such ideas amongst themselves to improve the lot of the common man. For example, TamilNadu could replicate the SAS property tax system of Karnataka to eliminate arbitrariness on the part of Revenue inspectors in assessing the property tax in Chennai and other cities of TN. The Chennai city 'ONYX' mechanical garbage collection system could be tried out in Bangalore. TNEB could provide their meter readers with the electronic electricity bill generator/printers, like in Bangalore. The conductors of MTC/STC buses could be provided hand-held electronic ticket dispensers, like in Bangalore. Similarly the'Bangalore One' model could be replicated in Chennai and other towns of TN, where many man-hours could be saved by the public in paying their telephone bills/utility bills/property taxes/obtaining birth/death certificates/submitting fresh passport applications etc., under a 'single-window system'. Metro water/TNEB like BWS&SB/BESCOM could also have ATM-like kiosks for payment of their bills 24/7. Franchises could also be given for the computerised sale of state moffusil bus tickets.

BAN JALLIKATTU, A CRUEL SPORT. Every year during PONGAL festivities, the cruel and dangerous sport called 'Jallikattu' is played all over rural TN, where menfolk try to prove their 'manhood' by trying to sieze the horns of a decorated bull, which is teased by hundreds of people chasing it, while beating drums. The poor beast which is agitated, yet terrified tries to escape from its tormentors and in the melee, some enthusiasts are gored by its sharp horns, even sustaining eye injuries. Since this is a self-inflicted injury, the injured persons shouldn't be accorded free treatment at government hospitals.

UNREGULATED PRIVATE BUS SERVICES IN TN. ON MY RECENT VISIT TO TN, I HAPPENED TO TRAVEL IN A PRIVATE BUS FROM KUMBAKONAM TO THIRUCHI (VIA THANJAVUR). THE BUS BAY MEANT FOR THANJAVUR/THIRUCHI-BOUND BUSES AT KUMBAKONAM MAIN BUS STAND, (NEXT TO THE FRUIT STALLS) WAS STINKING DUE TO THE EXISTENCE OF A URINAL CLOSEBY. THERE WAS NO TREE OR SHADY AREA FOR PASSENGERS TO WAIT. THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC SUPERVISOR TO REGULATE THE CROWD NOR WAS ANY QUEUE SYSTEM BEING FOLLOWED. IT WAS FREE FOR ALL WHENEVER A THANJAVUR/THIRUCHI-BOUND BUS APPEARED, AS KUMBAKONAM WAS NOT THE ORIGINATING POINT. PEOPLE OLD AND YOUNG, RAN AFTER THESE BUSES WHICH ONLY STOPPED A LITTLE DISTANCE AWAY. THERE WERE MORE PASSENGERS WANTING TO GET IN THAN THOSE GETTING OUT. IN THIS MAD SCRAMBLE TO CATCH THE BUS MANY ELDERLY PEOPLE AND LADIES CARRYING CHILDREN FELL DOWN AND HURT THEMSELVES. I WAS ASHAMED TO CALL MYSELF A TAMILIAN THAT DAY AS I HAVE SEEN SUCH UNRULY THINGS HAPPEN ONLY IN BIHAR/U.P./M.P. AND HARYANA. 'MADRAS STATE' WAS ONCE KNOWN FOR ITS SUPERB BUS SERVICES AND CIVILISED BEHAVIOUR. 'TAMILNADU', AS IT IS KNOWN TODAY HAS DETERIORATED TO THE LEVEL OF BIHAR/U.P.IN HUMAN BEHAVIOUR. THERE IS NO CONSIDERATION FOR THE ELDERLY AND WOMEN PASSENGERS. MIGHT IS RIGHT TODAY AND THOSE NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO RUN AFTER THESE BUSES AND FIGHT FOR A SEAT WERE LEFT BEHIND. PEOPLE WERE RESERVING THEIR SEATS IN THE BUS BY THROWING A BAG OR TOWEL THROUGH THE WINDOWS EVEN BEFORE THE BUS CAME TO A HALT. IT WAS THE RULE OF THE JUNGLE. THE BUSES WERE CARRYING NEARLY TWICE THEIR CAPACITY AND WERE DANGEROUSLY TILTING TO ONE SIDE. THERE WAS NEAR STAMPEDE INSIDE THE BUS WITH WOMEN/CHILDREN WAILING, WHENEVER THE BUS CARRIED OUT A HIGH-SPEED TURN. THE OVERLOADED BUS WAS BEING DRIVEN RASHLY. AS THE MUSIC SYSTEM WAS BLARING LOUDLY THE DRIVER COULD NOT HEAR OUR PLEAS TO SLOW DOWN. NO CHECKS WHATSOEVER BY RTO/TRAFFIC POLICE, WHO MIGHT BE 'LOOKED AFTER' REGULARLY BY THESE BUS OPERATORS. LACK OF A PROPER REGULATORY SYSTEM FOR PRIVATE BUSES BRINGS DISGRACE TO THE STATE. THERE SEEMS TO BE NO ACCOUNTABILITY ON THE PART OF THE TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT OFFICIALS. KARNATAKA HAS IMPROVED ITS BUS SERVICES MANIFOLD AND HAS ONE OF THE BEST BUS SYSTEMS TODAY. PLEASE DEPUTE TNSTC/TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT OFFICIALS TO BANGALORE TO STUDY THE SYSTEM THERE FOR IMPLEMENTATION IN TN.

sir you are aware of the devastation due to rains here in the nilgiris.you had extended support and help to those directly affected. work on restoring connectivity is not at the spped it should be.the middle class who are working here are suffering due to price rise, excess transport cost etc.their depts be it state or central have a provision to grant them a flood advance if the govt notifies the dt as flood affected.this is a loan from the respective depts that is recovered in their salary.thus govt does not lose anything. it is surprising that this announcement in the gazeette is not there till now. i request you to do something on this so that the hardships to the middle class, working class is mitigated to some extent. s.anantha krishnan

Thanga Thalapathi,Vanakkam. I have'nt seen many normal upper class women engaging in politics,if we even speak to those very few who are in power the views are abnormal. As far as my observation you are a person keen in regular exercise routines and healthy diet.My humble suggestion is - 1.) to start Health clubs across TN which ropes in ALL WOMEN SHAKTI -they can involve social activities too-like for example Markazhi month reading Thiruppavai, celebrating Christmas,Newyear,Moharam among the group members, 2.)Libraries and literary activities, 3.)Social watch groups area wise to monitor the basic needs of the downtrodden people, 4.)Area wise Media Coverage of school toppers, talented people, specialities of the area etc, 5.)Toilets in all bus and rail terminals and malls as in Singapore(women will adore you) 6.)Adoption of a lower income family/or a normal farmer by a Higher income family-they can fund, assist, educate, advise and inturn get organically grown vegetables,a country home to visit and a friend to teach the values not taught in any school,(remember the peace in Thirukuvalai,im from Paruthiyur near by) etc. 7.)like campus interviews our clubs should select top students and rope in co's for interviews and placement. 8.)More important to create a awareness group for the Climate Change-stop using plastics, use jute and other related products, plant trees, use public transport-need more to ease the traffic. 9.)Teach Tamizh and our ancient history through taking the children to ex:gangai konda cholapuram etc... it will create bonding across religions and sexes and ages of people, and their needs can collectively be fulfilled,so there will be one SINGLE PARTY IN TN THAT WILL BE DMK. Veeramum,Thamizhum, yethilum vetriyum,Samathuvamum mukizhndhaal yengal Thalaiva Vaerenna vendum yengalukku.Neevir Sutram Natpum Soozha Vaazhvaangu Vaazhga Pallaandu.

Respected Sir, Thanks for leading the State into one of the best and developed state in the country. I live at Ambattur housing board(Ayapakkam) which is lacking basic amenities. The layout developed by the Government is not having proper roads, if the roads are properly laid and developed, traffic in Chennai-Thiruvallur highroad will be reduced as the location is a good connecting point to Avadi-Amabbtur-Thiruverkadu(located in between the 3 locations. Also, reqeust you to provide more connecting buses between the above mentioned locations. The locality which has drainage system is not properly maintained, most of the drainage covers in inner roads are open resulting in manholes and the street which often go off doesn't help the people moving in the nights. TNHB has allocated lands for parks, request you to develop them as the property is used to illegal activities during nights. TNHB-Ambattur is between to lakes(Ayapakkam and Ambattur, if we could convert the water bed ends into good walking zones and with good parks, people can use it for walking and jogging.

Respected Sir, St.thomas mount to Medavakkam road widening is a appriciable project. Medavakkam road only starts from the starting point of Adhambakkam Lake. From this point to mount railway staion road is called Velalar street (Karikalan street). This stretch is about 400m only. Eighty percent of the people are living this street more than five generation. After patrician of assets the residents in front of this street having only 20' to 30 feet from road to inside. Now on 3.2.2009 at News paper 'Thinakaran' the Land Aquisition Dept. was published to acqire lands from the east side of the road for 36 residents. The notice shows that to acquire 5.5m for every houses (ie 18 feet). If acquired as per notice more than 70% of the people living in this street as Plat farm residents. Hence my humble request the Honorable Dy. Chief Minister, please widen this stretch of 400m as well as minimum acquirement of land with out demolishing the houses due to the following reasons. 1) The St. Thomas Mount Sub-way is having Two way only. 2) From mount railway station to Pazhandiamman koil street and Thiruvalluvar street are having two way only. 3) As Thillai Ganga Nagar Sub-way already designed for 6 way, this 4 way May be linked with this sub-way. 4) After completion of Velacheri to St. thomas mount Raiway Line as well as road project the traffic towards St.Thomas mount Railway Station Maximum reduced. Hence we residents of Velalar street, Adhambakkam request the Honorable Dy. Chief Minister, please cosider the above facts and to take decision for favour of the residents of Velalar street (near st.thomas mount railway station). Thanking you, Sir, P.PADMANABAN, NO.9, Velalar Street, Adhambakkam Ph: 9444465431

Recently implemented Insurance scheme is very wonderful and most of the peoples are starts to utilize. My suggestion is to provide free educations for poor instead of gifting free distribution like TV etc. And make eduction compulsory. Kindly close the TASMAC Shop or order them to keep closed bar, most of the shops peoples are taking liquor openly. Marina beautification is superb. I very much request you to kindly instruct the Officials to re lay the roads, almost all the roads are in damaged condition and your immediate attention is required.

Hello sir, I am happy to be here.I have one suggession to share with you regarding district names.Thottabettah one of the famous tourist places in our state is holding the name in language kannada. In Kannada it means Big Mountain. In future other state ppl may take this in hand and may create problems again like we experience in Hogenekkal. So here I share my idea of changing other languge names of districts into Tamil. Our Thalaivar's govt only can perform this.I am not sure about the difficulties in implementing this, but I've been thinkin this for the past 2 years and had no option of sharing this with our govt. Now I am very happy to share this to our Hon'ble Deputy CM, who is working for the poublis round O' clock and responding positively for public's wishes. I thank you for this oppurtunity

Respected Sir, Lots of work is being done in regulating the traffic in the city and most of them are well appreciated. However, for better results, kindly consider the following: 1. In old bridges like the Kodambakkam / chetpet etc, the pedestrian pathways are not used much at all.. like the recent fly overs, the pedestrian paths can be on the sides; the present space can be levelled and the road width increased; if a divider is also put, flow can be better. 2. At key junctions, escalators can be installed where there are foot paths..many companies will be ready to sponsor these, particularly in areas like TIDEL, Central station etc- its very sad to see people running across the roads. 3. Parking of buses just after signals must be avoided- key junctions like vadapalani, ashok pillar, kasi theater etc are choked only because of the buses stopping in the middle of the road. 4. All signals must always be in a ' CLOVER' formation- our drivers don't understand lane discipline- from full left, they will turn right and will always block the right turns, wanting to go straight- uniform flow will be ensured if signals are uniform. Kindly consider these sir. rajan

Expensive Public Toilets without Maintenance Dear Dr MKS, the by-election result has given a clear verdict. It is an evident, once again, that the people of TN have ONLY taken you as their problem solver. Among numerous, the public toilets problem are the worst one in our state. Its our fate (because we cannot avoid the use) that we are forced to use public toilets in various cities bus stand in TN. But the condition of such toilet is worse than so called “Koovam” in Chennai (I am very happy to see your order for changing the Koovam condition). I hope you will accept that human being needs clean toilet than the clean food. Its known fact that the contractors are charging almost 200% higher fees than the fees written there. Further, inside the toilet some cleaners are pouring water (actually they pour alcohol and standing there for robbery) they ask money, if we don’t give they start scolding us. Hence, totally we pay around Rs 5 for pissing. I almost travelled for all major cities in TN and I (as a common man) observed the following in public toilets. 1. Higher charges 2. No cleaning at all 3. Water is not available 4. Robbery around toilet building 5. The workers in toilet using bad words and scolding the users 6. Less capacity, hence people are waiting in Q which creates stress Hence, I strongly suggest you to make proper order to get rid of this issue. Though it may look like a simple issue, but I am sure if you solve this people will certainly be happy. Build good toilets with modern facilities and try to avoid collecting money from the users. Thanks in Advance. Wishing you a very happy new year 2010! Regards,

Sir, I really appreciate your endevour to make Tamilnadu a number one state in India. Your views are really excellent. But I want to suggest one thing that free distribution things can be stopped.Make the children to learn and thereby education can reach the common man.
